Why Eat More Plants?

You don’t have to be a vegetarian or vegan to eat more plant-based foods. Add more veggies or switch out meat a few days a week. It’s not only good for your health, it’s good for the planet.

“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” Michael Pollan

Eating more local plants is a key solution to climate change, reducing the demand for a meat heavy diet while simultaneously reducing methane emissions that are the direct result.

In Western societies we eat a lot of highly processed foods that create more harm to our environment than a nutrient rich, plant-based diet does.  Shifting to eating more plants can help impact the health of the planet - and your own.

Plants are good for boosting your immune system, supporting a healthy mind, body and soul.  No better time than the present to protect yourself with foods that support wellness and good overall health.  Eating high energy, plant-based foods help with physical, emotional and mental health.  You’ll feel better if your body is well cared for.

Here are 5 benefits to eating a plant based diet:

  1. Reduced methane emissions from cow burps. (Yes, cow burps.)

  2. Land preservation

  3. Lower risk for chronic diseases

  4. Less damage to freshwater resources and ecosystems

  5. Growing your own food is local and can be totally organic.

Maybe it’s not something that a lot of people think about, but the Western diet has a huge negative impact on climate.  Some estimates show that raising livestock creates a range of 15%-50% of greenhouse gases annually around the world.  And the truth is that eating more plants is better for your health.  Make a commitment to eat more plants and less meat.
