About

Hi everyone, I am Suzette Chaumette, MPH, a researcher, food grower, social entrepreneur with over 25 years in health care.  Too often, I see people suffering from food related diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure, that can be prevented, so I focus on how, what, and where we eat. That’s how Food Indy came to be.

What I love most is teaching people how to grow food forests in small spaces, compost food waste, and reduce thier impact on the planet by using less plastic in thier everyday lives. I have over 22,000 followers across platforms, where I share simple techniques for growing food right where you are.

I host three podcasts - The Food Indy Podcast, The Positively Green Podcast and Unpack the Real Stuff, and love connecting with people on a variety of public health, social and environmental topics, but my favorite topic is food. I love food - growing it, cooking it and eating it!

And just in case you need my credentials, here they are. I’ve done a lot that I am proud of that I can share with you. In 2003, I graduated from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in Maternal and Child Health, I am a Cultural Humility Facilitator, and a Permaculture Designer, who combines all of my experience in Food Indy, all about getting people closer to thier food. I am also the current Board President of Healthy Black Families, Inc.

But the accomplishment that I am most proud of is the role that I play in my family, being a mother to two daughters, auntie to 7 nephews, a caregiver and death doula to my parents through the end of their lives, and having long lasting, solid friendships.

I am available for consultations, whether you want to plant food or start a podcast. I am also open for public health and community engagement projects, including focus group planning, facilitation, and user interviews. Reach out and let’s talk about your projects. Follow me on TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.
