Where public health meets food culture

Suzette Chaumette, MPH

Meet Our Founder

Hi there! I am Suzette Chaumette, a public health leader, social entrepreneur and community activist with over 25 years of experience in health & wellness, the founder of Food Indy and the Board President of Healthy Black Families, healthyblackfam.org both nonprofit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

As a child of Haitian immigrants, I learned about small scale gardening from my Mama Suzette Rose Bertrand (1932-2022). With a heart full of love for food and cooking, art, history and culture, I share my ancestral lineage and knowledge to empower you to grow, cook, and serve healthy food that will nourish your body, mind, and soul.

I marry public health research with a love of growing plants, to develop programs that empower people to take control of their food and reduce risk for disease.

Teaching people to grow food and eat it is better for physical and mental health and local environments too. If communities everywhere grow food, there will be more fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs to eat, trees to cool our neighborhoods, and green space to enjoy. Let’s build ecosystems to improve wellness across the globe.
