Why join?
Women and children thrive in neighborhoods with green space and where food grows locally. Good, fresh food during pregnancy helps improve birth and breastfeeding outcomes, boost energy, and help prepare for birth. For children 0-5, healthy food is important for healthy minds and healthy bodies.
With local food access, preterm births decrease, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes could be significantly reduced in the most vulnerable people.

Mimi’s Garden
We are raising funds to buy a piece of land for Food Indy, that will be named "Mimi's Garden" for educational programs and a community learning space. This infrastructure will allow us to retain, nourish, expand, and cultivate food culture in the neighborhoods we serve.
We invite you to help make this expansion a reality as we position Food Indy for the next decade and future generations. Give $1804.00, or any increment of the number 1804, in honor of Suzette "Mimi" Bertrand (1932-2022) gardener, chef, and matriarch of the Bay Area Haitian community.
Why 1804?
1804 was the first year that Haiti flew the flag of independence and became the first Black republic established by formerly enslaved people. This fund is specifically to honor thier contributions to sovereignty, food culture, and maintaining multigenerational learning.
Your gift to the 1804 Fund will help us purchase our learning space and continue Mimi’s decades-long legacy.
All gifts of $1,000 or more will be listed on a plaque in our garden and gifts of $2,500 or more may be designated to specific aspects of the project.
