Hate plastic waste? Hold manufacturers responsible. Here’s how.
You’ve probably figured out that recycling is not the answer to our plastic problem, but what is? Extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation is the answer.
EPR puts the responsibility of decreasing plastic production and waste on manufacturers and corporate entities, rather than on you, the consumer. And until manufacturers are held accountable for their wasteful products, this plastic problem will persist. And that’s a fact.
What if the responsibility wasn’t on you, but on the manufacturers to take back their own waste or better, not produce it in the first place? Wouldn’t that be sweet?
The time to act and support meaningful EPR legislation is now. This new legislation being introduced in all states that would do exactly that - require the waste makers to take back their shit instead of making consumers try to figure out the best way to recycle.
EPR laws are gaining more interest all around the world, so be a part of the solution with taking the following steps:
Find out if your local or state government has EPR-type legislation
Write, call, email your Congressional representatives and tell them that you support manufacturers being responsible for reducing and or taking back their waste
Vote for legislation that puts the responsibility back on manufacturers.
Disposable goods are cheap for corporate giants, but are costly to our oceans, environment, food system, health and wellness.
Take action now by speaking up and letting legislators know that it is the producers of waste that should properly dispose of it.
Recycling can’t do it alone. New legislation can.
How do you feel about this new legislation?
